Election Results of Polls in 60 Local Government Vacant Demkhongs and Bye-Election in Dozotoen Chiwog of Soe Gewog under Thimphu Dzongkhag

The Election Commission of Bhutan is pleased to inform the general public that the Local Government Election in the 60 Remaining Vacant Demkhongs and Bye-Election for the post of Gewog Tshogde Tshogpa in Dozotoen Chiwog of Soe Gewog under Thimphu Dzongkhag were successfully conducted yesterday, the 18th of April 2017.

The Overall Voter Turnout was 30.8% with a total of 4,821 voters having cast their votes out of the total of 15,664 Registered Voters. Of the total votes cast 4,759 votes were cast in person on the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in the Polling Stations and 62 votes through Postal Ballot. No disputes were lodged in the election and no problems were reported in any of the polling stations.

Out of 76 (13 female and 63 male) Candidates who contested the elections, a total of 51 (8 Female and 43 Male) were successfully elected.

There were no voters who stepped forward to stand as a Candidate in 10 vacant Demkhongs. There are now a total of 10 vacancies including 6 for the post of Gewog Tshogde Tshogpa, 3 for Dzongkhag Thromde Ngotshab and 1 for Dzongkhag Thromde Tshogde Tshogpa.

With these Polls, a total of 1,489 officials (171 Female and 1,318 Male) have been elected to the Local Government elective posts.
