The Election Commission of Bhutan (ECB) will be celebrating the 8th National Voters’ Day (NVD) on 15th of September 2021 coinciding with the International Day of Democracy. The theme for the NVD is “Managing Elections Amid COVID-19 Pandemic.”
The NVD could not be observed in the year 2020 because of the surge in COVID-19 infections in the country. With the prevailing pandemic and the high risks posed by COVID-19 in the country, this year’s NVD will be observed in the higher secondary schools in self-containment mode in 17 Dzongkhags.
The primary objective of the day is to enthuse the young citizens and encourage them to engage meaningfully in the democratic process. This year, as we head towards the Third Local Government Elections, the Election Commission of Bhutan would like to draw particular attention on the need to encourage the participation of youth, women and persons with disabilities in democracy and elections.
The ECB takes this opportunity to wish all the voters and the participating schools a successful NVD celebration.
