The Election Commission of Bhutan (ECB) would like to inform the general public, government agencies, non-government organizations and local government functionaries that the incumbent local government will complete its tenure on 26th October, 2021. As per Section 202 of the Election Act of the Kingdom of Bhutan, 2008, the Local Government (LG) shall be reconstituted within 90 days after the expiration of the tenure.
While the ECB is gearing towards the conduct of the third LG elections, we are being contacted by various stakeholders seeking approvals to conduct trainings, seminars, surveys, research, etc. in the coming months. The ECB is of the view that such activities would not only become a source of distraction for local authorities in the Dzongkhags during the election period but could also hinder free and fair elections.
Therefore, the ECB would like to request all concerned to plan your activities after the LG elections.
