Declaration of the Results of Bye-Elections in Local Government, 2024

The Election Commission of Bhutan (ECB), as per the provision enshrined under Section 457 of the Election Act of the Kingdom of Bhutan, 2008, hereby declares the Results of the Bye Elections for filling the vacancies of the posts to the Local Government. 

The Elections were conducted in the FOUR Dzongkhags for the positions of Gup, Mangmis and Gewog Tshogde Tshogpa with the poll day on July 30, 2024. 

The names of candidates who have been successfully elected are as follows:

The overall voter turnout details are as follows:

1..Phongmed Gewog, Trashigang Dzongkhag

Of the 3506 registered eligible voters (M=1683 & F=1823), 1463 cast their votes on the poll day (EVM: 785 & Postal Ballot: 678) achieving an overall voter turnout of 41.7%. 

    2. Samphelling Gewog, Chhukha Dzongkhag

    Of the 2938 registered eligible voters (M=1504 & F=1434), 1170 cast their votes on the poll day (EVM: 252 & Postal Ballot: 918) achieving an overall voter turnout of 39.8%. 

    3. Tongmajangsa Gewog, Trashi Yangtse Dzongkhag

    Of the 2852 registered eligible voters (M=1334 & F=1518) 1119 cast their votes on the poll day (EVM: 409 & 710) achieving an overall voter turnout of 39.2%. 

    4. Chhamina_Chhoekhor Chiwog under Kawang Gewog, Thimphu Dzongkhag

    Of the 281 registered eligible voters (M=127 & F=154), 70 cast their votes on the poll day (EVM:54 & Postal Ballot:16) achieving an overall voter turnout of 24.9%. 

    Details of the results are available on the Election Commission’s web page: www.ecb.bt. It is also hereby being notified that as per Section 580 of the Election Act of the Kingdom of Bhutan, 2008, the members elected shall only serve for the remainder term of the 3rd Local Government. 

    The public and all stakeholders may note that the Election Petition Period of 10 days for this Bye-Election starts from today and would end at 5 p.m. of August 09, 2024.
