The Election Commission of Bhutan (ECB) is pleased to inform the public that the Commission has recorded a total of 62 election-related cases during the Primary Round and General Election of the 4th National Assembly Elections, 2023-24.
The details of the election related cases recorded as of 9th January, 2024 are as follows:
Primary Round : 6 cases
General Election : 22 cases
Office of Media Arbitrator : 34 cases
Total Cases : 62 cases
Break-up of the Cases
1.Warning and Public Reprimand : 28 cases
2. Fines imposed : 25 cases (Nu. 720,000/- was imposed as fines)
3. Dismissal : 9 cases
As per the provisions of the Election Act, 2008, Election Dispute Settlement Rules and Regulations, 2018, Social Media Rules and Regulations, 2018 and Rules on Election Conduct in the Kingdom of Bhutan, 2022, while cases arising in the Dzongkhag are settled by the respective Dzongkhag Election Dispute Settlement Bodies (DEDSB), the Central Election Dispute Settlement Body (CEDSB) and the Full Commission caters to appeals registered from the Dzongkhags, CEDSB and suo-moto dispute settlements of cases initiated by it.
