The Election Commission of Bhutan is honoured to report to the People of Bhutan that the historic Second Local Government Elections 2016 has been successfully conducted with the Poll Days for the First Phase in three Thromdes on 25th of January 2016, the Second Phase (20 Dzongkhag Thromdes, 205 Gewog Tshogdes and 1 Thromde Tshogde) on 27th of September 2016 and for the re-polls in 14 Demkhongs on 21st of October 2016.
Overall elected Candidates of the Second Local Government Elections 2016
Elections in the First and Second Phases of the Second Local Government Elections 2016 were called for a total of 1,499 posts including the post of Gup, Mangmi and Gewog Tshogpa in the 205 gewogs; Thrompon and Thromde Tshogpas for 4 Dzongkhag Thromdes of Thimphu, Phuentshogling, Gelegphu and Samdrup Jongkhar and Thromde Ngotshabs in 16 Dzongkhag Thromdes.
A total of 3,391 Candidates contested the elections for the various posts, excluding 26 Candidates of the three Thromde elections conducted in January 2016. A total of 1,439 have been elected to the various Local Government elective offices.
The 1,439 Candidates elected as Local Government leaders include 164 female and 1,275 male. The details are as follows:
- 205 Gups, out of which 2 are female and 203 male
- 205 Mangmis, out of which 24 are female and 181 male
- 993 Gewog Tshogpas, out of which 129 are female and 864 male
- 4 Thrompon, male
- 20 Thromde Tshogpas, out of which 7 are female and 13 male
- 12 Thromde Ngotshabs, out of which 2 are female and 10 male
Vacant Demkhongs
A total of 60 (39 Chiwogs, 4 Thromde Ngotshabs, 3 Thromde Tshogpas and 14 results of Negative Voting) Local Government Demkhongs are vacant currently. Polls in these Demkhongs shall be called in due course of time.
Voter Turnout
The Voter Turnout for the poll in 205 Gewog Tshogde Tshogpas, 16 Dzongkhag Thromde Ngotshabs and Samdrup Jongkhar Thromde on 27th of September 2016 was 55.8%.
