National Voter’s Day

The Election Commission of Bhutan (ECB) will be celebrating the second National Voters’ Day (NVD) on 15th of September 2015 coinciding with International Democracy Day, on the theme “Women in Our Democracy” in all 20 Dzongkhags. An elaborate function to mark the NVD is being held in Dewathang, Samdrup Jongkhar Dzongkhag by the ECB and in Samtse Dzongkhag the celebrations are being combined with the programme to mark the International Day of Democracy.

The primary objective of the day is to enthuse the citizenry and encourage them to engage meaningfully in the democratic process. This year, as we head towards the second Local Government Elections, the Election Commission of Bhutan would like to draw particular attention to women’s participation in democracy and elections.

The National Voters’ Day is a call to all voters to remind them of the important and central role and responsibility of a voter in a democratic society: a society governed through the freely expressed will of the people as enshrined in the Constitution of the Kingdom of Bhutan. Therefore, we would like to invite the worthy citizens and voters of the Kingdom to join us in any of the Dzongkhags.
