A three member delegation of the Bhutanese Election Commission (ECB) led by the Chief Election Commissioner of Bhutan, Dasho KunzangWangdi, returned from a visit to India. The delegation held discussion with Election Commission of India (ECI) to foster mutual cooperation and relations between the two Electoral Management Bodies (EMBs) on areas such as work placement of ECB officials with the Election Commission of India, exchange lecture series, seminars on democracy and elections, study tours and election visitor programme, Indo-Bhutan Joint training of electoral officers and the possible funding of Electoral Training and Resource Centre (ETRC) for Bhutan. The ECI agreed to extend its support and cooperation.
The ECB also took the opportunity to felicitate the ECI for the successful conduct of the 16th Lok Sabha General Elections which was a mammoth undertaking in the world’s largest democracy. The delegation visited the Parliament of India to witness the election of the Speaker and the introduction of Council of Ministers to Parliament by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.
The delegation visited Nepal and held discussions with the Election Commission of Nepal on the preparations for the 5th Meeting of the Forum of Election Management Bodies of South Asia (FEMBoSa) to be held in Nepal from 31st of October to 4th of November 2014.
