Public Notification on Campaign Restrictions

The Election Commission of Bhutan (ECB) would like to remind that as per Section 268 of the Election Act, election campaigns shall be permitted only after the issuance of notification calling elections. The provision states:

“The election campaign shall be permitted to commence from the date of issue of notification by a Royal Decree calling an election as announced, or notified in the case of Local Government elections by the Election Commission and end forty-eight hours prior to the hour fixed for the commencement of poll for the election.”

  This shall strictly apply to:

1.  Newly registered Political Parties & aspiring National Council candidates who are currently on familiarization tour in the Dzongkhags/Constituencies;

2.  Registered Political Parties and Candidates who are in their Constituencies to meet their Coordinators and Supporters; and

3.   Any other individuals, including the members of Political Parties.

In the event of any violation, the ECB shall strictly deal with the matter in accordance with the provisions of the electoral laws, including the new rules titled, “Rules on Elections Conduct in the Kingdom of Bhutan, 2022.”

The Dzongkhag Election Authority shall closely monitor the activities carried out by the above-mentioned Political Parties/Candidates/Individuals.
