The Election Commission of Bhutan conducted training for the Electoral Officers who will be deputed on election duty for the Third National Assembly Elections 2018 as Returning/Assistant Returning Officers and National/ Micro Observers. The training programme was held on 26th and 27th of July 2018.
During the opening session, the Hon’ble Chief Election Commissioner highlighted the importance of the Third Parliamentary Elections 2018 and the need for dedicated services of the electoral officials in ensuring that the Third Parliamentary Elections 2018 is successful as Envisioned by Our Kings, enshrined in the Constitution of the Kingdom of Bhutan and elaborated in the Electoral Laws.
The objective of the training was to brief on the legal provisions, procedures and requirements highlighting the key areas of concerned electoral documents; provide hands-on training on use of the EVM as well as ensure all officers are on the same page as to the conduct of the elections even with most officers being on election duty at the recent National Council Elections.
The programme is considered as being very important as all officials on election duty must have a sound understanding of the electoral processes and the Electoral Laws and key legal provisions to ensure elections of a high standard. In particular, the Returning Officers have a vital role to play in the conduct of elections and it is imperative that they are conversant with the Electoral Laws and thorough with the election process to discharge their duties confidently and efficiently.
